Valentine Day crafts for kids has ideas for making decorations, as well as ideas for small gifts for friends.

Some of the projects require getting started a few days ahead to allow for drying time for glue, paint, or dough crafts.

Most of these Valentine Day crafts for kids ideas can be done by kids with little help from an adult.

Paper Valentine Day Crafts for Kids

Heart Wreath

Make hearts with strips of construction paper or cardstock and shape into hearts. Attach to each other to form a heart wreath. Cute idea.

Valentine Craft Prints

Valentine craft prints are clever ways to make heart prints to use for cards or wall hangings. Or you could add a child’s photo to one.

Strip Paper Hearts

Cut paper strips in different lengths and colors and put together to make the pretty strip paper heart shown.

Folding Envelope Hearts

These fun folding envelope hearts are easy to make. Write a message on the heart, and then fold the sides in, the top down and the point up. It makes its own envelope!

Handmade Heart Doilies

Create these clever handmade heart doilies using prefolded paper napkins. Make large or small according to the size of the napkin.

Secret Message Valentine

Secret messages are always fun for kids. They can make a secret message Valentine using grape juice, baking soda and laminating sheets.

Valentine’s Day Heart Garland

A great classroom project, each child can make a heart or two with cardstock or construction paper. Put them all together to make a Valentine’s Day heart garland.

Other Valentine Projects

Crayon Hearts

Kids can have fun making wax-crayon shavings and spreading them on a sheet of waxed paper. An adult needs to do the next part: place a sheet of waxed paper over and iron until shavings have melted. Kids can cut crayon heart shapes.

Valentine Can

Paint and decorate an empty can, or decoupage hearts or flowers on it to make a Valentine can that can be filled with silk flowers or goodies.

Puffy Valentine

Cut 2 matching hearts from a paper bag and glue around the edges, leaving an opening to stuff it. Glue shut and paint your puffy Valentine red.

Marbled Valentine

Make a marbled Valentine. Using shaving cream and food coloring, make marbled paper to cut into butterfly shapes. After pasting marbled butterflies onto slightly larger ones made from cardstock, cut 2 slits to slide a pencil into for the body.

Heart-Shaped Button Covers

Make easy festive heart-shaped button covers with red, white, and pink felt. Cut a vertical slit in the center of the heart to slip over a button.

Heart Necklace

Use hearts, beads and red string to make a heart necklace. Brush glue on the hearts and sprinkle on glitter for extra sparkle.

Paperclip Necklace

Open the two sides of a paperclip to form a heart shape. Link the hearts together to make a paperclip necklace. Use colored paperclips for a festive look.

Foam Heart Pins

Create foam heart pins using large craft foam hearts, colorful beads and glitter glue.

Salt Dough Heart Pins

Make salt dough heart pins or magnets with pink or red dough, and decorate them.

Pipe Cleaner Heart Flowers

Shape red pipe cleaners into hearts and green pipe cleaners into stems and leaves to make these clever pipe cleaner heart flowers.

Heart Pops

These pipe cleaner hearts are so easy to make. Tie bows just under the hearts for added effect. Or stick these heart pops among the flowers in a bouquet.

Pom Pom Valentine Critter

Use pink pom poms, pink foam hearts and wiggle eyes to create this pom pom Valentine critter.

Puzzling Valentine

Make a heart shape, write a message on it, and cut it into a few puzzle pieces for a puzzling Valentine before you put it in an envelope.

Clothespin Valentine

Glue hearts, ribbon, doilies, and buttons onto clothespins to make clothespin Valentines to clip on cards or treat bags. Or put a magnet on the back and hang on your refrigerator to hold a special Valentine.

Accordion Folded Hearts

Use pretty flowered paper to make accordion folded hearts.

Handmade Valentines for Kids

These handmade Valentines for kids use cupcake liners, which give them a pleated look. Glue hearts, flowers or ribbons on them to finish.

More Than A Card

These Valentine Day crafts for kids have a little gift with them.

Valentine Whirly Gig

Make these fun Valentine whirly gigs for all your friends.

Valentine Paper Pockets

Make 2 hearts the same size with poster board. Decorate one for the front and punch matching holes around the bottom two thirds of the hearts. Use yarn or ribbon to lace the two together and fill the Valentine paper pockets with a treat.

Inchworm Pencils

A great fun gift for a classroom full of kids, your kids can make a bunch of these inchworm pencils with a little help from you. Maybe boys would prefer blue inchworms.

Heart Pencil Toppers

Scroll down to see the heart pencil toppers. Kids can make these with felt by gluing or sewing around the edge and placing on a pencil. Or make them from craft foam or cardstock and glue around the edges. Remember to leave the bottom open for the pencil.
