I’ve always loved making things, even when I was very young. When I was 9 or 10, my Grandmother taught me how to crochet.
As a young adult, I taught myself to follow instructions in crochet patterns so that I could crochet anything I wanted to, and I created afghans, vests, leg warmers, baby clothes, and Christmas stockings.
I also learned how to sew and made most of my kids’ and my own clothes, as well as drapes, bedspreads, quilts, and gifts.
I crafted lots of Christmas ornaments and decorations. I created an Advent Calendar for my kids, and then made several more for gifts.
Macrame and decoupage were very popular for a while, and I learned to do those. I tried most new crafting methods that I saw.
I have enjoyed seeing various crafts being reintroduced and seeing them done in new ways. I love the creativity crafters exhibit when they make something new from an old traditional method.
Many people are becoming more frugal while still wanting to create crafts and gifts for others.
With the advent of the internet, all kinds of craft ideas, tutorials, techniques, and materials have become available. By creating Crafty Journal I can share these wonderful new creative ideas and where to find them.
