Periodically we need to repaint a room in our house, and in the process have found some ways to make painting cheaper and easier.
Of course, we always buy good quality paint, but we’ve discovered some cheap tricks to help keep the costs down.
Foam Brushes
Get a couple of bags of multiple sizes of foam brushes.
They do edges nicely because of the beveled tip.
They don’t last really well, but are easy to use, cover nicely, no brush strokes, and can be tossed when the job is done.
No clean up!
Here’s an easy way to hide paint drips on brown or natural wood surfaces.
Remove Dried Paint Splotches Easily and Cheaply
Try this idea for removing dried paint splotches before you spend a lot on paint removers.
Easy No-Mess Way to Paint Baseboards.
This was so quick and easy, I almost enjoyed this part of painting which normally I hated to do.
Use Alcohol Wipes to Clean Paint off Your Hands.
After you’ve been painting for a while, paint that has attached itself to your hands or arms can become dry and difficult to remove.
Using these alcohol hand wipes that you’ve made ahead of time can help you remove the paint much more easily.
More Tips.
- Take off your shoes and wear old socks when you paint. Feet don’t stick to the plastic floor covering and socks can be removed when you exit the room to keep from tracking paint. Toss if they get ruined.
- Cereal Box. Cut one open and lay it flat to slide under a door you are painting to protect the floor from drips.
- Rub vaseline all over your hands and lower arms before you start painting. Paint will be easier to remove, and your hands don’t get so dried out from much washing to remove the paint. Reapply vaseline after washing your hands.
- If you drop a splotch of paint on the plastic floor cover, put a piece of paper towel (or folded piece if it’s a large splotch) on top so you won’t be stepping in the paint and spreading it around.
