Make DIY alcohol hand wipes.

DIY Alcohol Hand Wipes - Crafty Journal

Especially during cold and flu season, I  use hand wipes a lot. And they are expensive!

I keep a bag or two of them in my car, and carry a few with me in a ziplock sandwich bag.

Because I use so many, I decided to make my own, and here’s how I do it.

Crafty Journal - DIY Alcohol Hand Wipes

Materials.

Unscented Baby Wipes

Bottle of Alcohol

Quart Ziplock Bags

How to DIY Alcohol Hand Wipes.

1. Open the baby wipes and remove a stack of the wipes that is about 1 inch thick.

2. Put the wipes in a quart ziplock bag.

Crafty Journal - DIY Alcohol Hand Wipes

3. In the quart bag, separate the wipes in a couple of places and pour  alcohol in.

Crafty Journal - DIY Alcohol Hand Wipes

I usually use 1/4 to 1/2 cup total on the wipes.

4. After you’ve added the alcohol knead the wipes a little to make sure they are saturated with alcohol.

5. Press the air out of the ziplock bag and seal tightly.

The DIY alcohol wipes are ready to be used.

We are going to Disney this summer and this is a great idea to keep in the small pack I’ll be carrying into the parks. I would love for my family to wash hands before we eat and this would be the ideal solution.

I think I’m going to cut the wipes in half and use a sandwich bag to make them even more compact since space is limited.

I fold a few up small and keep them in a sandwich bag for when I forget to use one in the car or need one suddenly. I like your idea for cutting them in half – it’s the alcohol that does the job, not the size.

Super simple and easy! I love it. I’m not a huge fan of sticky antibacterial hand sanitizers, but would definitely use these, especially since I’ve got a newborn and we go out pretty often. They’d be great to use on shopping carts and out in public. Thanks so much for sharing, Noreen!

I’m germ-o-phobic, and I can’t touch a shopping cart handle until I’ve cleaned it with an alcohol wipe!

I found some Aloe wipes at Dollar tree and going to do the same due to no hand sanitizer anywhere.

I have a quick question. Why unscented? Also, can you use flushable wipes?

  37. Noreen says

    March 22, 2020 at 12:27 am

I use unscented wipes because I’m allergic to perfumes and everything scented. Since many others have the same issues, it seems best to use the unscented. I don’t know about flushable wipes since I’ve never tried them. If they are fairly sturdy they would probably work, too.

  38. Noreen says

    March 22, 2020 at 12:30 am

I prefer the wipes to the hand sanitizer.

  39. Marcella says

Question: instead of baby wipes , can you use paper towels?

  40. Mo says

    March 26, 2020 at 10:25 am

So it’s ok to mix the alcohol in with the ingredients from the wipes . Cause I was thinking this and googled and here I am lolol but this would be great cause disinfectant wipes are sold out everywhere and I’m a delivery driver who touches alot of things and share my truck so I would like something easy to wipe down steering wheel and such handles before I drive

I use coffee filters in the same way for years. 150 Coffee filters from $1 store, they leave no lint.

    Great idea!

  43. Noreen says

    April 1, 2020 at 8:23 pm

We’ve never had a problem in all the years we’ve used them. Good luck and thank you.

  44. Noreen says

    April 1, 2020 at 8:26 pm

I’m sure you can. Baby wipes are probably a little sturdier, but I would think paper towels would work, too, though they may disintegrate more easily.

Why not put the wipes back in the popup dispenser they come in?
