Easy, No-Mess Way to Paint Baseboards

We love this super easy no-mess way to paint baseboards.

Easy, No Mess Way to Paint Baseboards - Crafty Journal

Before when we’ve painted, we used a paint edger, which needs to be wiped free of paint after each use.

This left us with tons of paint smeared paper towels or rags, and we usually managed to get some paint where we didn’t want it anyway.

This time we applied packing tape along the edge of the carpet, leaving a half inch or so on the baseboard.

Then we used a scraper to push that extra half inch under the baseboard, and pressed the tape down against the carpet.

Once the whole edge was taped, it was a cinch to paint the baseboard – with absolutely no mess!

After the final coat of paint was applied, we let it dry for a few hours and then gently removed the packing tape.

The newly painted baseboard looked perfect.

What a great idea – we have used that painters blue tape before but I have not tried packing tape and I have a lot of it. I am going to try this soon as we will be painting our dining room and need to protect the floor. Pinning so I remember.

I can testify that this method really works! It is so easy to paint baseboards this way. I use a tiny amount of paint toward the bottom of the baseboard as it blends in when the carpet is released from the tape. Thanks for sharing this idea!
