Tamale Soup is a quick tasty meal when you don’t have a long time to cook.
Because of the canned tamales, this soup has a little different flavor, and the tamales thicken the broth.
Ingredients.
1/2 Pound Hamburger
1 Onion, diced
2 or 3 Cloves of Garlic, minced
1 – 15 Ounce Can Tamales
1 – 15 Ounce Can Tomatoes, diced
1 – 15 Ounce Can Beans, Kidney or Pinto
3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce, optional
1 Teaspoon Chili Powder
1/4 Teaspoon Cayenne Powder
Salt
Pepper
Directions for Tamale Soup.
1. Brown the hamburger, onion, and garlic in a 6 quart pot.
2. After the meat is browned add the soy sauce. You don’t need this, but I like the extra flavor it gives the browned beef.
3. Add the tomatoes and beans along with their liquid.
Rinse out each can with about 1/3 cup of water, and add to the soup.
4. Unwrap each tamale
and dice it. Add to soup.
Rinse out the can and add the water to the soup.
5. Add the spices and salt and pepper to taste.
If you have time, let the soup simmer for a half hour or so to blend the flavors.
