You can make a cute Easter basket from a cereal box.
And it’s fun to decorate the basket after you’ve covered it with pretty Easter or Spring paper.
It’s also a good project for kids.

How to Make an Easter Basket from a Cereal Box.
1. Decide on the size of basket you would like.
My box was 8 inches x 12 inches, and 3 inches deep.
A 4 inch high basket allows plenty of room for grass, plus eggs, candy, toys or other items.
2. Measure the box 4 inches up from the bottom and draw a line all the way around the box.
3. To make the handle, mark the middle of the front of the box and then mark 1/2 inch to each side of the center.
4. Draw a line from the top of the basket all the way to the top of the box including the flap – on each 1/2 inch line.
5. Cut down each side of the handle to the line marking the top of the basket.
6. Cut on the basket top line all the way around the box – but do NOT cut off the handle.
7. Glue a small piece of leftover cardboard across the flap crease at the top of the handle. Let dry.
This will keep the handle from bending at the crease.
8. Cut a piece of scrapbooking paper into two 4 inch high pieces – so they are 4 inches high and 12 inches wide.
Each piece of paper will cover the front and one side or the back and one side of the basket.
See the photo in #6.
9. Starting at one corner, attach the paper across the front of the box and around one side to the back corner. Cut off the excess.
10. Starting at the corner where the first piece ended, attach the other piece of paper across the back of the basket and around the side to the last corner.
Cut off the excess.
11. Cut a piece of scrapbooking paper just a little wider than the handle and attach it to the handle, from the top edge of the basket to the end of the handle.
12. On the opposite side of the basket from the handle, find the center.
Mark about 1/2 inch down from the top and punch a small hole.
Punch another hole centered about 1/2 inch from the end of the handle.
Push a brad through the basket and then through the handle end.
13. Embellish the basket with egg or bunny stickers, flowers, or other Spring decorations.
Now it’s ready to fill.
And as always, adults should supervise kids using scissors or other sharp tools.

This brings back such good memories of Easters when I was little. My Mom always made my baskets, usually several little ones like this and hid them around the house. BTW I am 75 years old and have done this for my children, my grandchildren and great- grandchildren thru the years. My mother also decorated the egg carton to collect the eggs during the egg hunt.

I have lots of great Easter memories, too. We always searched for our Easter baskets, and sometimes they could be tricky to find.

Hello Noreen – my daughter found your site as she was searching for a particular bunny. We were both surprised to finally find a picture of it here on your site. She has had this bunny since she was 2 (she is now 8), she affectionately calls him Blue Bunny. Her dad & I do not recall where it came from and of course it is far to loved to have a readable tag. Could you please tell me, if possible, who made him? Actually any info you could give would be greatly appreciated. My daughter would be thrilled. Thank you! Melissa
