I make lots of projects that require holes in the middle where they are hard to cut.
Here is an easy way to cut holes in the middle of something.
If the item is soft and flexible and bends easily, cut the hole like this.
Fold the item in half so you can see half of the hole on either side.
Using sharp scissors, cut a small slit in the center, being careful not to cut past the marked edge of the hole.
Then stick the tip of the scissors in the slit and proceed to cut around the marked edge of the hole.
If what you want to cut is hard, such as plastic from a milk jug, cut the hole like this.
Punch 2 or 3 holes close together to make an opening large enough to stick the scissors tip in.
Cut around the marked edge of the hole.
For a thicker hard object, you can drill a hole, moving the drill bit around to make the opening larger.
Then you can use a larger bit to finish the hole.

How do you cut in cardboard?
Noreen says
First draw around a lid or something round of the size you need. Then I would use a craft knife (carefully!) to cut the circle out. You might have to make 2 or 3 passes with the craft knife if the cardboard is very thick. Adult only should use a craft knife.
